My Luxurious 50SQFT Life

A multimedia performance featuring the housing problem of Hong Kong. Explore how life in 50 square feet sub-divided units influences people’s interpersonal relationships and family communications. Through installations, life video projections, physical performance,audio effects and interaction with the audience, we investigate the issues of inhuman living conditions and the reasons behind the emergence of sub-divided units. Cinematic Theatre has visited Philippines,Singapore, Shanghai,Taiwan,Macau and Shenzhen for cultural exchange performances since 2003.

We focus on original works which explore the horizons and soul of modern people. In face of management level's seeking accountability between the trio, how can the mistake-ridden newjoined nurse, wishing to be promoted senior nurse ,soon-to-retired head nurse work together to endure the looming storm?

This work focuses on problem of overworked medical workforce of Taiwan as a starting point, and extend to the overall youth dilemma; discussion explores the impact upon nurses when faced with inhumane work schedule, extended working hours, underpaid human resource, cross-department laboring, and pressure of evaluation scheme. Especially when faced with medical disputes, how should we view the attribution of responsibility?

It is a story about a man and a woman living next door in a big city, where we all become numbers under all kinds of discipline.

“177-65-22-versatile” is the gay man, who uses the code as everyone else to get himself into casual sex. Through the representation of this process, we expect to depict the variety of homosexual image and to portray the perspective on class which gay theater nowadays is very much lack of.

“34B” is the woman. Her bra size. We hereby hope to connect the suffering of homosexual with more general oppression in everyday life, such as body surveillance, topic of consumption, disorders and anxiety in modern life. Overall, we are all struggle to live with more dignity instead of just surviving.

Deeply inspired by the film "Il Deserto Rosso" (The Red Desert, directed by Michelangelo Antonioni ) and a "blue boy". We all live in a wide, blue desert nowadays. Also, films are always the main inspiration for us, so we have "1.33:1", as cinema is the light in this emptiness and loneliness.
